WhatsApp is reportedly developing support for Android’s notification bubbles feature, which could allow users to keep conversations accessible while using other apps. The feature is currently under development and has not yet appeared in any beta version.

What Are Notification Bubbles?
Notification bubbles were introduced by Google with Android 10 and refined in later versions. They allow chats to appear as floating icons on screen, quick access to conversations without opening the app, and replies via a compact chat window.
How WhatsApp’s Bubble Feature May Work
According to reports, WhatsApp’s implementation could:
- Show chats as floating bubbles (chat heads style)
- Display profile picture + WhatsApp indicator
- Open a mini chat window on tap
- Allow quick replies while using other apps
Users may also get the option to disable the feature if they prefer a standard notification experience.
Similar to Facebook Messenger Chat Heads
The feature is expected to work similarly to Facebook Messenger’s chat heads, bringing persistent conversations, faster replies, and reduced app switching. This would make WhatsApp more aligned with Android’s native multitasking experience.

Availability & Device Support
- Still in development (not in beta yet)
- Expected to roll out first to Android beta users
- Likely limited to Android 11 and newer devices
Older Android versions may face limitations due to system permissions like “draw over other apps.” iOS users will not get this feature, as notification bubbles are not supported on iPhones.
